Terms of Use
Last updated October 31, 2026
These terms apply to using Kith Moot, including its website and the Kith Moot Discord server. By creating an account or playing, you agree to them. Please also read the Privacy Policy.
The beta
Kith Moot is in an open beta and is still being built. Things will change, some will break, and features may be added or removed. We work hard to keep your characters and campaigns safe through every update, but during the beta we can't promise that nothing will ever be lost.
Plans and payment
There's a free plan and paid plans. What each plan includes and what it costs are shown on your Profile and on the pricing page at kithmoot.com/pricing. Prices are in US dollars. Each plan's turn allowance is explained there, and turns you don't use in a month don't carry over.
A paid plan is a monthly subscription. You pay the full monthly price when you choose it, and that day becomes your billing date. It renews automatically every month and we charge the card on file until you cancel. Payments are handled by Stripe; we never see your full card number.
Cancelling and refunds
Cancel any time with Manage payment and cancel on your Profile. You won't be charged again, you keep your plan until the end of the month you've paid for, and then your account moves to the free plan. Nothing is deleted: your characters and campaigns stay, and the free plan's limits apply to what you do next. Deleting your account also ends your subscription.
During the open beta: if you're not happy with your first payment for a plan, email support@kithmoot.com within 7 days of paying and we'll refund it in full and move you to the free plan. Other payments aren't refundable, except where the law requires it.
After the beta: payments aren't refundable, and we don't refund part of a month, except where the law requires it. If you're charged by mistake or something goes wrong with your account, email support@kithmoot.com within 14 days and we'll put it right, which may include a refund. We'll email subscribers at least 30 days before the beta refund offer ends.
Moving up to a higher paid plan takes effect straight away: Stripe credits the unused part of your current plan and charges only the difference. Moving to a cheaper plan takes effect at your next billing date.
Price changes and failed payments
We may change our prices. If your plan's price goes up, we'll email you at least 30 days before it applies to you, from your first billing date after that notice. Cancel before then if you don't want to pay it.
If a renewal payment fails, it will be tried again over the next few days and we may ask you to update your card. If it still can't be collected, your subscription ends and your account moves to the free plan, with nothing deleted.
Plan changes we make
We may move an account between plans or groups, for example to give a tester or a group access to a plan, or to end it. If we move you to a paid plan, you have 7 days to add a payment method and start paying; if you don't, your account goes back to the free plan, and you're never charged unless you choose to pay. If we move you to a plan that costs nothing while you have a paid subscription, the subscription is cancelled at the end of the month you've paid for.
Your own API key (BYOK)
On the BYOK plan the storyteller runs on your own LLM API key. Your API vendor bills you directly for what your games use, under your agreement with them; those costs are yours and aren't part of the BYOK price, which pays for the game itself. Your key is stored encrypted, used only for your games and never shown again, and you can remove it from your Profile at any time. If your key stops working, your games can't use it until you fix it, and we don't refund the BYOK price for that time. We don't limit what your key spends, so keep an eye on your own usage with your API vendor.
Codes and bonus turns
We sometimes hand out codes that give bonus turns, and you can get bonus turns when a friend you invite verifies their email and finishes their first session. Bonus turns are used only after your plan's turns for the day or month run out, and never on your own API key. Each grant ends on the date shown in your turns panel, and you can hold a limited number at once. Bonus turns have no cash value, can't be sold or moved to another account, and never give money off a plan. Redeeming a code needs a free account with a verified email: guest play can't redeem one. Each player can redeem at most 3 codes in any 30 days. Each code works once per account, may be limited to some players or a number of uses, can expire or run out, and we can end a code at any time. We may hold back or remove bonus turns we believe came from misuse, such as several accounts run by one person.
Who can play
You must be at least 13. If you're under 18, you need a parent or guardian's permission to play. Give accurate information when you sign up, keep your password to yourself, and use only your own account.
Playing fair
- Be kind to other players. No harassment, hate or bullying, in campaigns, chat or Discord.
- Keep shared campaigns suitable for the people in them. Don't try to steer the narrator into sexual, hateful or illegal content, or into content about real people.
- Don't try to break into, overload, copy or disrupt the game, or use bots or scripts to play it.
- Found a bug or an exploit? Report it with the in-game Report a bug button instead of using it.
The AI narrator
The story is written by an AI as you play. It's fiction: it can be strange, inconsistent or wrong, and nothing it says is advice of any kind. If it ever writes something that shouldn't be there, please report it.
Your content and feedback
What you write in the game is yours. You let us store it, process it (including sending it to the AI narrator) and show it to the other players in your campaigns, so the game can work. If you send us ideas or feedback, we may use them to improve Kith Moot without owing you anything for them.
During the beta, every campaign's turns, what you type and what the narrator writes, are kept privately on our server so we can check and improve the narrator.
Game content
Some of the game's rules and content come from the System Reference Documents, used under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License; the Credits page carries their attribution.
Accounts
You can delete your account at any time from Profile. We may suspend or remove an account that breaks these terms or puts other players at risk.
No warranty
Kith Moot is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent the law allows, we aren't liable for any loss or damage from using it, including lost progress.
Changes and questions
We may update these terms; we'll change the date above and let players know on the Kith Moot Discord server. For changes that affect paid plans, we'll also email subscribers before the change takes effect. Questions? Email support@kithmoot.com or ask the Kith Moot team there.
